What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol (can·na·bid·i·ol), a compound found in hemp. CBD works by stimulating the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which exists throughout the body. CBD is one of over 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants and accounts for up to 40% of the plants extract. CBD is completely legal and non-intoxicating (meaning it wont get you ‘high’).
While the full complexity of how CBD interacts with the body’s ECS is yet to be revealed, it is a key compound in restoring and regulating the body’s natural balance.
Can you take too much CBD?
A 2011 Study analysed outcomes of taking various CBD doses. It found that even the highest doses of 1500mg per day were repeatedly well tolerated by humans and showed no signs of toxicity.
When using CBD, you shouldn’t have any concerns about overdosing. As always, if you’re new to CBD, we recommend you start low and increase your dosage over time until you find your ideal therapeutic window.
The ECS is a complex cell-signalling system identified in 1992 by Dr Raphael Mechoulam, who was a professor of medicinal chemistry and natural products at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. They discovered that the ECS plays a fundamental role in regulating every physiological system in our body, and the functions and processes of all these systems. The ECS system is found all over the body; in the brain, organs, glands, connective tissue & immune cells. It is primarily involved in regulating all our physiological systems & processes including appetite, pain sensation, mood & memory. The primary role of this system reolves around maintaining balance in the body – or homeostasis.
Whilst we are still discovering the full extent of how the ECS system works in our bodies, we can break down the role of the ECS down to two primary functions:
- To modulate pleasure, energy & well-being
- To slowly nudge the body back to health in the face of injury & disease
It is entirely legal to purchase CBD Oil in the UK provided it complies with the Novel Food Act.
‘Novel Food’ refers to any food without a history of widely documented consumption before May 1997. These can still be things we are familiar with, for example a food consumed elsewhere in the world like chia seeds or certain probiotic bacteria.
Yes. Our CBD supplier was one of the first to submit their novel foods application to the FSA confirming Treed is a customer and covering our entire CBD supplement product range. Our application number is RP229.
MCT stands for Medium-Chain Triglycerides. These are healthy fats mainly derived from Coconut oil. Compared to other fats and oils, MCT is smaller and absorbed faster. Our MCT oil is responsibly sourced from coconuts
When you take CBD oil, some can be lost in the digestive process. In the liver, the CBD is broken down into hundreds of metabolites. Many are not used by the body and expelled. This process decreases the amount of CBD, reducing its bioavailability. This is where MCT Oil becomes useful. It carries the CBD past the first pass metabolism process into the bloodstream, meaning your body absorbs more CBD. This increases its bio-availability and ensures you get the best possible effect.
All of our Lab Reports are conducted by an independent 3rd Party Laboratory . As a consumer you should know exactly what you’re putting into your body and we strongly advise reading and understanding a Lab Report before trying any CBD product.
Our reports can be found below
A World Health Organization report issued in 2017 concluded that CBD does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm. The vast majority of CBD oil users don’t experience any negative effects.
If you have a health condition or are taking any prescribed or over-the-counter medicines, always check with your doctor or a pharmacist for possible drug supplement interactions before taking CBD.
No, unfortunately it is a criminal offence to use CBD products on your pets in the UK, if you don’t have a valid prescription from a vet. All CBD products for animals need authorisation before they can be sold in the UK.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is CBD oil & will it get me high?
CBD will not get you high. It comes from hemp, which is the name given to high CBD-strains & low-THC strains of cannabis.
As CBD is oil-soluble, it is often mixed with hempseed, olive, or MCT oil to enhance its absorption. The combination of CBD plus a specific oil creates the mixture know as CBD oil.

The simple answer is no. CBD is not addictive.
On the other hand, it has even been suggested that CBD has been shown to help overcoming some addictions. A 2013 study looked at the effectiveness of CBD as a way to reduce tobacco consumption. Observing 24 smokers over a week-long period, those treated with CBD reduced the number of cigarettes smoked, while those with the placebo showed no change.
Just fill the dropper with oil and drop it underneath your tongue, letting it sit for one-minute to absorb. With all orders, we provide guidelines for how many drops you need to take depending on what type of aid you’re looking for.
You can also download our Beginner’s Guide to CBD for guidelines on how much you need to take.
While swallowing the oil poses no threat and will still be effective, taking the oil sublingually (under your tongue), allows for maximum and rapid absorption into your bloodstream. When you swallow it immediately, CBD still reach the bloodstream after digestion, but it’s absorbed much more slowly and some of its effectiveness may be lost through the gastric walls in the stomach.
That’s why we recommend holding the drops under your tongue for at least 30 seconds to ensure you get maximum effectiveness

How long does CBD take to work?
Most people can begin to feel some effects of their CBD dosage after 30-45 minutes, for others it can take weeks. It depends on why you’re taking CBD and what dosage you’re taking.
If you’re taking it for a specific goal, we advise trying CBD for at least 30 days to understand how it effects & benefits your body. Some people do notice it immediately, whereas some people take a month to feel any benefit. Lots of people notice better sleep on their first or second night after trying CBD, but the effects will be individual and unique for you.
Take your time and understand how CBD is interacting and benefitting your body & mind. With our Happiness Guarantee you know you can return any Treed product for a full refund if you are unhappy.
