A not uncommon problem across the CBD market and one that we sometimes find with customers at Treed is people jumping straight into their new bottle of CBD, not immediately feeling anything and thinking this isn’t right for them, or even worse, that they have been scammed. Given the unregulated nature of the CBD market, these are understandable worries that new users may have, but often these can be blamed on a few things. Taking the wrong product, taking it in the wrong way or worse, giving up after one day.
This week, Treed explains how to get the most out of your CBD Oil and what to look out for as a new consumer. Here at Treed, customer trust is one of our most important pillars which is why we’re the only UK CBD company to offer a 30 day wellness guarantee. This means that you can try our CBD for 30 days and if at the end of it, you think it has not worked for you, you can get a full refund. We believe in education, transparency, & quality. Consuming a new product can be an unnerving time, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you to experience the benefits of CBD in a comfortable and happy manner.
Before we jump into our 5 tips to maximise the effects of CBD, we just want to briefly explain how the compound works in the body so you can better understand our suggestions.
CBD is a fat soluble compound, rather than water soluble. This is quite important as during the many millions of years that humans have evolved, our cells have been designed to digest primarily water based substances. Therefore when fat based compounds like CBD are introduced, it can mean the body has a tougher time unlocking the nutritional benefits. This is why all
Treed products come with Organic MCT Coconut Oil, as the body more readily absorbs this high fat carrier oil as the molecules are much smaller and thus easier to digest, improving the bioavailability and meaning you get more CBD for your money!
So now we have that out the way , let’s jump into our 5 tips to get the most out of your CBD.
So this might sound rather obvious, but PLEASE don’t forget to read the dosage instructions on the bottle before you consume your CBD.
We say this because a lot of the time when people first try CBD they simply swallow it straight away. This is problematic as it means the CBD then has to be digested in the stomach and pass through the liver (all of which reduce the bioavailability and effectiveness of the CBD). This means you’re getting less milligrams of CBD than you want, and so it will be less effective.
For best results, you want to take the CBD and hold it under the tongue for around 60 seconds before swallowing. You hold it under the tongue as this area is full of salivary glands and capillaries, which gives your body the time it needs to absorb the CBD directly into the bloodstream to be transported around the body.
You need to give your body time to absorb the active compound & often, when new users take this approach after previously being disappointed, they immediately notice the beneficial effects of the CBD.
What about those who have tried CBD for a few days under the tongue and haven’t noticed anything? Why is it not working for me they ask? Well, the answer is that taking CBD is a personal experience, unique to you and it will affect every person slightly differently.
To function properly, the endocannabinoid system requires cannabinoids such as 2AG and anandamide at all times. When these natural cannabinoids are depleted or not enough to bring the body back into homeostasis, taking CBD oil will help bolster the system.
To do this effectively, you need to take the correct amount of CBD oil on a daily basis. A lot of times, people tend to use CBD because of a specific condition, only to find it helps other areas of their health and their overall wellness.
Your endocannabinoid system runs through the entire body at a cellular and subcellular level. CBD is a whole-body compound. When you start taking CBD for the first time, pay close attention to everything going on in your body. You may notice more benefits that you initially intended, and subtle changes to your mood, wellbeing and overall health. Only through consistent use over time can you truly understand the full mental & physical benefits CBD can bring.
We know some users may after their first day sleep and feel better, whereas we have had other users take 2 weeks until they begin to feel the full benefits of our CBD. Taking it for a day or even a week may simply not be enough time for you to notice the benefits CBD is having on you. That is why we offer our 30 day guarantee. We want you to feel comfortable giving yourself time to experience and enjoy CBD, and not to worry about your money and trust. If after 30 days, you don’t think this is for you and haven’t felt the benefits. Simply get in touch with us and we will issue you a full refund.
We just want you to be happy.
We’re not recommending here that you mix your CBD with your food. As we explained earlier, if you simply swallow the CBD, it has to be digested by the body and so will be less effective. What we do recommend though, is consuming your CBD just after a meal that contains some healthy fats.
We recommend you do this because even though we recommend holding the CBD under the tongue for 60 seconds, when you swallow it you want it to be as effective as possible. Studies have shown you can enhance the effectiveness of CBD by taking it with fatty acids.
When you swallow CBD, it has to pass through the lengthy digestive tract after which it travels to the hepatic portal system via the portal vein and finally, into the liver.
In the liver, the processes become a little complicated. This study elaborates on how CBD compounds are broken down in the liver. In what is called the “first pass effect”, CYP450 enzymes in the liver break down CBD, and in the process reduce its concentration dramatically. The leftover CBD is then passed onto the bloodstream and lastly into the endocannabinoid system. This whole process takes at least 2 hours.
According to results from another study, fatty acids act as binding agents for cannabinoids such as CBD and help bypass the “first pass effect”. This is why we use MCT as our carrier oil, as its fully of fatty acids. If, alongside that you’re taking your CBD alongside a meal full of healthy fats, they’re helping to protect the CBD from being broken down by the enzymes in the liver. This leaves the CBD more concentrated and increases its absorption rates. This means you get more CBD for your money and you feel better.
To get you started, here are some foods that are rich in fatty acids:
- Coconut oil
- Soybean oil
- Olive oil
- Sesame oil
If your goal is to get the most health benefits from your CBD oil, then we think you should choose Full or Broad Spectrum CBD oil over pure CBD isolates. With the advent of Novel Foods in the UK, CBD is no longer legally available and therefore Broad Spectrum CBD is the only CBD Oil that Treed currently offers. We offer Broad Spectrum CBD Oil as several studies have shown it to be more beneficial than Isolate. Israeli scientists from the Lautenberg Centre for General Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem discovered that ‘full & broad-spectrum CBD oil offers more health benefits due to what is known as the entourage effect’
The entourage effect phenomena results when the many cannabinoids, terpenes and fatty acids in the whole cannabis plant interact with the body to produce more health benefits than any of the components used alone.
When searching the market for CBD there are hundreds to choose from. Here are a few things we think you should look for when choosing where to buy your CBD.
Alongside this, we must emphasise finding a CBD brand that you trust. 3rd Party Lab Reports, and good customer service should be a minimum expectation for any consumer looking to start using CBD. Treed offers a 30 day wellness guarantee
Firstly, any company that does not have 3rd party lab tests on their website is one to avoid. These allow you to verify exactly what is in your CBD. When surveyed, as many as 60% of CBD products did not contain the amounts of CBD confirmed on the label, so 3rd party lab results are crucial!
Extraction is another important point. We discussed this in lots of detail in our Extraction Blog, but effectively, we think that Co2 extraction is the purest and best method to extract your CBD.
Third, look at the ingredients, CBD should contain 2 or potentially 3 ingredients. A carrier oil (we use Organic MCT Oil), Hemp Extract (CBD) & potentially terpenes. There should not be anything else, especially e-numbers, preservatives or unnatural flavourings. Check the label!
Lastly, it is important to check the brand you’re buying from is covered by a novel foods application. This is recently changed UK legislation that shows your CBD is from a FSA approved list. If you want to understand more about Novel Foods & CBD you can find more details here.
Well, that does it! Hopefully this article has provided a few helpful – and practical – tips for maximizing the therapeutic effects of your CBD. After all, we all know how frustrating it is to spend your hard-earned money on something, only to find out that it doesn’t work in the way you were expecting it to.
That being said, keep in mind that these are only suggestions – they should not be taken as clinical advice, or as a guarantee that your CBD oil will start to work better! It is important to remember that everyones body and system is unique and everyone reacts to CBD oil in exactly the same way. Factors such as age, health, genetics, metabolism, tolerance levels, brand of CBD, just to mention a few, may influence how you respond. Nonetheless, based on your preferred method of intake, the strategies mentioned above have scientific backing and sound reasoning on how they would help to enhance the effects of CBD oil.
Getting the most efficiency from your CBD oil will enable you to cut on costs and more importantly, lead a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle. If you have any more questions please reach out to us on email@example.com or you can find the full range of our CBD Oils Here.
