5 Tips for Better Sleep
Sweet dreams, how CBD can transform your night-time routine.

“Your body loves habits, both good & bad. It finds comfort & safety in the familiar.”
One of the most immediate and noticeable effects of taking CBD is the improvement in sleep quality. The benefits of CBD with regards to helping us sleep better are widely understood and well researched, but we’re not going to get into that today. Most importantly, good quality consistent sleep is not the result of a singular action, and is actually a combination of habits that nudges our body to balance as the time approaches to catch those z’s. In essence, it is best to view it as a practice. Like any practice, it takes consistency, but the rewards are well worth it, and your mind, body & soul will thank you for it.
This week, Treed has 5 quick tips to help you break those bad bedtime habits and find your zen when preparing for and going to bed.
1.Make it a routine and stick to a sleep schedule
Your body loves habits, both good & bad. It finds comfort & safety in the familiar, and this can be both beneficial but often damaging. The good news is you are completely in control of your actions, even though your brain will always try to follow the path of least resistance. At first breaking bad habits will feel uncomfortable, but persevere! Choose a time that signifies the beginning of your wind down and bedtime routine. From here is where you engage in practices purely for yourself and your sleep.
2.Help your future self out
Think about anything you can prep tonight that will make tomorrow easier & better. Small things left can be anxiety inducing, especially in the mornings. Wash the dishes in the sink, prepare your outfit for tomorrow or your meals, take the bins out. Completing a small but simple task will give you a sense of achievement and contribute to putting you in a relaxed state of mind before bed. Limiting your screen time before bed will allow you to relax, and your brain to unwind away from the glare of blue light. Do not underestimate how important this can be for getting a good night’s sleep and waking up the next day feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
3.Prime your body & mind
Let your mind and body know it is time to unwind and get ready for sleep. Make yourself a herbal tea, take a welcoming dose of CBD (Our personal favourite is 4 drops of Restore). We can also recommend 200mg Magnesium. Try meditating or a simple breathing exercise. Both are shown to lower your heart rate and put you in a relaxed state of mind.
A really simple but effective one I love is this -
- Get comfy, lie on your back, or sit crossed leg, whatever you prefer.
- Take in a deep breath from the lowest part of your stomach.
- When you can’t take in any more air, stop and hold your breath for 3 seconds.
- Exhale nice and slow without force.
- Repeat 10 times.
4.Reflect on your day and journal
Think about your day and write down 3 things you are grateful for. This simple, but powerful exercise will put you in a positive state of mind and relax your mind and worries. There’s always things to be grateful for, however big or small. We love using Intelligent Change’s Five Minute Journal, which has great prompts and is beautifully presented.
5.Create an environment that relaxes you and turn on the cosy vibes
There’s no rules to what creates a relaxing environment for you. We’re all individuals and we all like different things, so experiment! Have a warm shower, light up a scented candle, read, play some relaxing music, pray, get under the blanket or duvet and get cosy! Again, this environment is about what works for you, and it may take you some time to truly understand what actually helps you to relax and what doesn’t. Don’t feel pressured to understand and get this perfect on night one. This is a gradual process that will improve over time and ultimately allow you you relax, unwind and recover from stressful days better. Take it slow and go at your own pace, the person who will benefit is you!
And Finally
Finding your bliss and calm at the end of the day should be something you look forward to. You can use all of our tips above, some of them, or even none at all. Finding your zen is a personal experience to you, the main thing is that you are able to relax and allow the brain to wind down.
